The first step is understanding the signs of overheating and dehydration on our pet. The most noticable symptomns of overheating and dehydratiin is panting excessively, drooling, and has thick, sticky saliva. Make sure to check their temperature, if their temperature is higher than 104 F (40 C) then your dog is suffers from overheated and need to cool down as soon as possible. I recommend you to call your veterinarian for an exam. Then, monitor your dog health and give your dog treatment.
There are several ways of cooling of your dog. The best way to do it is give your dog access to a fresh and cool water anytime they want. You may need to provide clean bowl and fresh water near your dog, don’t force water into your dog’s mouth, because it can cause choke. You may also drapping cool, wet towels over your dog, neck, forelimbs and hind legs. Remember that you simply drap cool towel, not cold becaue it can be dangerous if your dog temperature falls too low.
The next step is make sure to prevent your dog for overheating. To ensure that your dog wont experience further overheating, there are several things you need to do. First you will need to keep your dog in a cool and safe environment. The best place is inside your home and in front of a fan, however make sure that you have a shady area if you want to take your dog outside. Car is not a safe environment for a dog on a warm day, even if you are parking your car in the shade. Beaches, garages, sunny rooms are also not suited for dog. If you let your dog go outside, make sure to provide a water dip for your dog to stand or even laying in the water. The best way to cool your dog is by give him cool accessories such as a cooling vest that will be able to allow your dog cooling down and comfort.
